4.8 million additional visitors are expected to visit Paradise City

Paradise Segasami Inc., the operator of Paradise City Casino Resort in Incheon, South Korea, expects the second phase of the plan to attract 4.8 million visitors within a year, Yonhap reported.

The South Korean news agency added that the company's new facility sales target for next year is 500 billion won (about $445 million).

The first phase of Paradise City (photo), which consists of casinos, hotels, and convention centers, opened in April last year.

In its first year, the casino resort attracted 1.2 million visitors.

Koreans are not allowed to enter casinos.

The second phase, which opens this week, will consist of a second hotel, spa, club, and shopping arcade.

South Korea's news agency quoted Park Pyeong-yong, CEO of Paradise Segasami, as saying, "Through the opening of the second phase, we will highlight the entertainment aspect and become a key tourism landmark in South Korea."

The comments were made during a news conference at the resort on Thursday.

Yonhap reported that Paradise Segasami is trying to attract visitors from countries other than China, given signs that Chinese people are visiting South Korea less than before.

According to government data cited by Yonhap News, the number of visitors to foreign-only casinos in Korea fell for the third consecutive year last year due to political disputes between Korea and China. The 16 foreigner-only casinos attracted 2.22 million visitors last year, down 6.2 percent from the previous year.

The number of Chinese tourists visiting Korea reached 41,337 in July, up 45.9 percent from a year ago. However, the increase was due to last year's low benchmark figure, and this July's total was well below 917,519 in July 2016.

Yonhap News quoted Park Jong-hoon, an executive of Paradise Inc., as saying, "We don't think the number of Chinese visitors will increase rapidly in the near future. However, we expect that the upcoming opening will boost our marketing and attract more VIPs."

Paradise, a Korean resort operator, and Segasammi Holdings, a Japanese slot machine manufacturer, launched a 1.5 trillion won casino resort business in 2011 and established the Paradise Segasammi joint venture the following year.
